Inseparable

In an era where society is increasingly reexamining conventions and stereotypes, especially with the continued growth of feminism globally, wearing high heels has become controversial in 21st-century China as people recognize its stereotypical association with sexual attraction. In a discussion with a heels dancer in Hangzhou, we walk into her life to understand how she sees heels dance and why she loves it, and more importantly, to know if it’s the right time to break people’s rigid opinions.

Inseparable is a mini-documentary I directed, shot, and edited in the summer of 2023. It fulfills my simplest wish back then: to tell a story worth telling through a woman’s perspective.

I am fortunate enough to say that this documentary was awarded ‘Official Selection’ and ‘Jury Prize’ at the Eutopia Arthouse Film Festival 2024 in Belfast. Though I would have to admit its flaws and imperfections when filming and editing everything by myself, I am always thrilled by the possibility that more people may try to read the message behind this short documentary, which is the meaning of being a filmmaker for me.
